This project, named Apple P, is to create an edition of 50 prints reflecting the process of printing in a very broad sense.
For this we are in pairs, my partner being the lovely Miss Jacobs. Both of our families own large victorian lawn rollers, which flatten and create lines in a lawn. Being extremely heavy we thought it would make a great press. So we went down to the largest town in the country, Cranleigh to experiment with Laura’s Roller:
so we made paint…

…and cut a stencil…

and roll roll roll

hmm then camera ran out of battery.. umm yeah so youll just have to trust me, it didn’t work as beautifully as we’d hoped… so we thought of using lino cuts instead of stencils, applying the ink before and using the roller as the press.
As for content, loving the look of the roller, we thought of using it as our image. Something like this, probably using two lino plates to create a nicer and more complex feel and look:

We then went down to good old Cranleigh again and cut some pieces of lino from the image above and played around:

we are now playing with including type with a third plate…
