This project, named Apple P, is to create an edition of 50 prints reflecting the process of printing in a very broad sense.
For this we are in pairs, my partner being the lovely Miss Jacobs. Both of our families own large victorian lawn rollers, which flatten and create lines in a lawn. Being extremely heavy we thought it would make a great press. So we went down to the largest town in the country, Cranleigh to experiment with Laura’s Roller:
so we made paint…

…and cut a stencil…

and roll roll roll

hmm then camera ran out of battery.. umm yeah so youll just have to trust me, it didn’t work as beautifully as we’d hoped… so we thought of using lino cuts instead of stencils, applying the ink before and using the roller as the press.
As for content, loving the look of the roller, we thought of using it as our image. Something like this, probably using two lino plates to create a nicer and more complex feel and look:

We then went down to good old Cranleigh again and cut some pieces of lino from the image above and played around:

we are now playing with including type with a third plate…

Bad Typography- Choose Now

A little late to put this project up!

This project sprang from Nigel’s love of extremely bad typography and shop signage. Following a talk on this passion of his the brief was given- “explore bad type. Seek it out. Categorize it and then devise a strategy or campaign”. Other key elements were recognition, participation and the giving of awards.

This project was with Helen Chesner, Joe Mania and Joel Baker. Our response started with games to get people involved and include the participation element on the brief. Making campaign t-shirts was just one part of the fun. Dressed up in partaay gear we filmed interviews and award giving to shops guilty of bad signage and typography. With this film and Joel’s techie wisdom we made an interactive game online which allows you to guess from possible answers, what happens next. We called this game ‘Choose Now’

New Language, Technology, Design

My concept was to bring overground underground.
To give people traveling on the underground a view of what is above them- giving them a better idea of where they are in London.
I made a Stop-Motion to demonstrate this concept. Here are some snap shots:

i also looked into advertising,

but quickly saw that the images of over ground sights were far more successful.

Popular- Create a Music TV Channel

brief: The brief for this project was short and sweet; Create a new TV channel: Name; musical ethos; Brand identity, to include Logo, Business card and A3 poster. The finished items should be printed and mounted and displayed on the studio walls ready for the crit on the 19th March.

Coupled with Jonny Endres (Jonny loves to be called Jonny- so call him Jonny), our channel is called ‘Alive’; our ethos is based around live music, revisiting and reminiscing in gigs and festivals from the past.
our beginning logo ideas:

To get texture and feel for the lifestyle and time of the events i put a backdrop for our posters:

rock festivals and gigs

Billboard experimentation…

Bus Ad…

Business Card..

Website..

Recycle continued…

and the experimentations continue…

WORDplay: Recycle…woop

The brief: WordPlay: Illustrated Typography

We have each been given a word. We are asked to produce a poster using illustration and typography to communicate a complex narrative about this word in two dimensions.

Requirements: Bright, dynamic witty, eye-catching, contemporary and conceptual solution to communicate to the audience your personal approach to the communication of the word you have been given. Final format will be an A2 poster in landscape format. You will also produce a zine and a photo of a 3d model.

my word is RECYCLE! Trying desperately to escape the stereotypical response to this word being about reuse of rubbish and the different colored bins i looked into Recycling in a less physical manner, into the concept of recycling love, which lead to recycling the heart and then onto recycling yourself/ Recycle Me… So far conceptually i am lead in the direction of recycling body.  Whether for love, prostitution, DNA within family trees etc or being a organ donor…

These aren’t fully resolved, i intend on working on the ones i think work, any opinions would be appreciated in terms of effectiveness for them… or not!

Shrine Project: Final Shoot

we had rushed to get the shot for hand in but felt we had to go and reshoot to get it better for portfolio and self-satisfaction. This is the best we got so far:

Newspaper tower challenge + Logo Project

Brief:

Construct the largest free-standing structure out of 3 newspapers.

Our group was made up of Ali, Yaz and myself. the only all girl team… and we WON!! :)

A fun team building day.

The very first project was the logo Project. Brief was to create a logo that communicates interaction:
I think i can talk for most when i say, by the end of this project we were sick of the word Interaction.
Here are some workings and my final logo:

Shrine: Stage Three… Making and Photographing

Jean and I spent a lot of time in the Metal workshop (Jean a little more than me while i took 48 hours out for Swine Flu..eghh) And this is what we made…

what we made it from first:

and what we did with them:

Jean has the final chosen portrait picture for crit… but you get the idea!

Manifesto and Hoxton

Brief: Create two pieces of typography. One will be your interpretation of a manifesto issued between 1880 and 1930. The second requires you to produce you own manifesto. Both typographic manifestos should reflect the content.

One of my favorite days. I want my own letterpress..
